BUKIT LAWANG

Bukit Lawang is one of the entrances for tourists who want to see the uniqueness and natural beauty of Mount Leuser Nasiuonal Park. Located in North Sumatra, precisely in Langkat Regency. The area which was originally only a plantation area in Bohorok Subdistrict which borders Gunung Leuser National Park. In 1973 by the WWF and Frankfurd Zoological Society this area was chosen as the Orangutan Rehabilitation Center. Sumatran animals are unique and endangered by hunting and trade activities. Gunung Leuser National Park is known as one of the habitat of this rare animal.

Until then, this place is increasingly known and crowded with local and foreign tourists who want to see this animal up close. Efforts to rehabilitate orangutans obtained from domestic products or from continued confiscation continued until the mid-90s. More than 200 orangutans have been released from the results of this rehabilitation process. Some of these orangutans still remain in the Bukit Lawang forest area. Although it is no longer a place for rehabilitation of orangutans, the activities of maintaining and maintaining semi-wild orangutans are still ongoing. Every day on a scheduled basis, feeding orangutans is carried out on feeding sites and visitors are welcome to watch this event closely without being allowed to touch or feed the orangutan.

At present Bukit Lawang is one of the mainstay attractions of North Sumatra. Seeing orangutans in their natural habitat is the main attraction of this place. From the city of Medan, Bukit Lawang can be reached in around 2.5 hours by driving with relatively good road conditions. The forest area that characterizes tropical rainforests with variations in topography, the uniqueness of plants and various types of wildlife in Bukit Lawang presents various interesting and challenging tourist activities to explore. The topography of the area that varies from ramps to hills is very interesting for those who like trekking. In trekking activities tourists can find several types of plants typical of tropical forests such as semar bags, meranti, keruing, sea resin, forest orchids, rafflessia, carrion flowers and other types of tiger fungus. Likewise unique species such as the variety of butterflies, and several types of primates such as siamang, kedih, sun bears and forest goats, and of course the possibility of meeting orangutans of rare species found in Gunung Leuser National Park.

The attraction of exploring the forest is not complete if it is not combined with camping activities, and of course it is increasingly interesting if it is continued by drifting along the clear Bohorok river from upstream to finish at Bukit Lawang. Tracing the river or the so-called "tubing" usually uses tires that are strung together to resemble a raft. If you want to enjoy a more challenging river search activity, rafting on Sungai Wampu is an attractive choice. From Bukit Lawang, the start point of the Wampu river rafting in Marike can be reached in about 1 hour drive. Start white water rafting starts from Kaperas village - Cangkolan and finish in Durian or further pamah to Bahorok Bridge

INTRODUCTION TO TROPICAL RAIN FORESTS

Jungle Trekking Nasional Park

Tropical rainforests or often also written as tropical rainforests are biomes in the form of forests that are always wet or damp, which can be found in areas around the equator; that is, more or less at latitude 0 ° –10 ° north and south of the equator. Tropical rainforests can also be interpreted as forests located in the tropics that have high rainfall. Then from that, they are called Tropical Rain Forests. These forests are partly in Indonesia, including Kalimantan and Sumatra. In English terminology, this forest formation is known as the evergreen equatorial rainforest lowland, the evergreen tropical lowland rainforest, or briefly called the tropical rainforest.
Tropical rainforest is home to half the species of flora and fauna throughout the world. Tropical rainforests are also dubbed the "world's biggest pharmacy" because nearly 1/4 of modern medicine comes from plants in this rainforest.
